SmackFactor / Bio

Let's see...Where to begin....Once upon a time? Hold on....wrong story. OK. Well, it's 2003, my name is Palmer, Pigskin for short, I think? I'm bandless and bored. Driving my wife crazy, she says to me, "Why don't you get back into a band or even make one?".....DING.....Light bulb!!! So I started my venture with good friends that have the same metal desire. On and off I had been jamming with a bassist named Dana Kramer, he had a killer death metal backup voice!! Next, a drummer, Jeremy Woolman, from "South Saint." He was in. Of course I was playing guitar at the time. A three piece was created. It still wasn't enough. My good friend Shawn Wolf, in which I used to play bass in a project called "Disinter", moved back from Colorado Springs to Windsor, and I found him, a lead guitarist, and he was interested. Now a four piece band, time for a front man. In bands with myself, like "Flesh Flood" and "Twitch", my old singer Rich Chaffin was interested in one more project with me. Now a five piece band, we needed a name. Bassist Dana Kramer said we needed a name that hits hard like "SmackFactor" and so the name was born. We all agreed to it. Now we needed a cool font and designs! I called my blood bro Wyl Collins to do so. Not only was he the artist of our logo art but he became the 6th member of the band, playing didgeridoos. We were a full force 6 piece tribal metal band. Putting out a three song demo, we were ready to hit the scene. Bigger opportunities arose for us. We had the pleasure of opening up for "Diecast" in Farmington, NM in front of 3,000 people. By now we had a name and a following. Along the way we lost Dana who was replaced by a couple other guys. We had a gig with a band called "Zen Conspiracy", James was the bassist for them. I told Wyl "Why don't you give him a call, he needs to be in a heavier band, Ha Ha." Wyl and I knew James from the past, he was in. Back on track, Jeremy was let go and replaced by a long time friend and former drummer of "Twitch" , Richy Layton. With that he brought discipline to make us heavier and faster with more groove. Unfortunately, along the way we had to let go of our lead singer Rich due to differences of opinion. He was replaced by the singer of the "Deadnotes" Toby Nielson......and enough about him. With Nielson as our new replacement, we went full on tribal-groove-heavy-ass metal and put out our first full-length CD. We were moving strong, getting some looks and offers. In 2007, we lost Richy but before that, Richy had grabbed Loren Honstein (ElJay) and started showing Loren the drum parts (Some of us knew Loren from watching his other bands). For awhile there we had two drummers at rehearsal. Loren was dialed in. At that point, we were a well oiled wrecking machine. Jammin' with bands like "Hemlock" and "Arcanium." But as all good things have to come to an end, a wrench was thrown into our machine and Nielson was tossed by the band. So here it was 2011 and SmackFactor was on hiatus. Conflicts happened in the band, but no matter what, we stayed together, hoping for a better future. Unfortunately, we lost Wyl to better carrier opportunities (In fact, you might be wearing his shirt right now). We started posting for a new singer, had several try outs and a few duds. All was lost....darkness had taken over....then up from the ashes and through the mist.....a man of flesh, tall, broad in stature, with short spiked hair of fire, tattoos that bled from every pore and a voice from hell!!!! And then there's Payden. Payden came with the attitude that he was going to be our front man. James felt something more than we did....and he was right! Payden (Payday, Pagan the bounty hunter) Browning always showed up to rehearsal full boar!! His dedication, determination, and hard work made him a true family member, with Payden on lead vocals, James throwin' down on the five string bass, Loren-Drum Addict on skins, Shawn on lead guitar, and myself on rhythm. The five of us felt that this is the new and permanent line up. Rolling strong, we will remain strong, fueled by THC and vinegar. We've shared the stage with top Denver metal bands and will continue to help the Denver metal scene stay strong! We've come a long way since our first gig in a gas station garage across from the tracks!! If it's loud and smells like weed....You're in the right place!!!
