KathariK (kuh-thar-ik) is an evolution of what was a hobby, nothing more than a reason to write music with the company of your friends. But after a year of producing their own sound they decided that they might really have something, to approach what they created with more serious intent. The band went through an overhaul in terms of members as Ian Ary and Jonathan Bogart joined. “KathariK” is derived from Catharsis which means to “purge emotions through art or music.” The name fit the bands intentions along with the music’s message. Brand new material was written at a much more disciplined pace. The vibe was more deliberate and they were proud of what they were writing.
In 2008, KathariK started playing shows at nearly every place they had the opportunity. KathariK began to make a statement in the Florida metal scene. But in 2009, Jonathan Bogart (Bass) had been diagnosed with Lymphoma, and the optimism among the members suffered a blow. Adamant about maintaining the best possible lineup in the best interest of the band, KathariK went on a personal hiatus to give Jonathan all the time he needed in hopes of seeing a recovery. He eventually beat cancer and KathariK began to group up and play shows again. KathariK would struggle to make consistent appearances in the local scene due to conflicting schedules and personal endeavors. Michael Otero (Drums) then left the band due to personal horizons.
Jory Lewis (Drums) was found through his popular youtube account. Upon seeing videos of his talents, Jory joined KathariK after the 5 members shared similar dreams of writing better music and playing live shows in front of larger crowds. KathariK began to write new music highly influenced by bands such as Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, and Parkway Drive. Ten songs were written and the production for their first full length album “In Search of Reason” began in the summer of 2012. KathariK was more recently voted as Florida's top rated up and coming local band by "Introduce: Yourself Promotions." They have since spent much time living up to that honor.
