A native and resident of West Virginia, Haley Slagle began playing guitar at age 9, writing songs at 12 and performing live at 15. Splitting her time between solo performances and covering the rhythm guitar for Southeast Engine keyboard player Billy Matheny’s side project The Frustrations, Slagle’s self titled debut EP was released in February 2013.
Haley and producer Jeremy Batten began recording vocal takes to a click track and adding instrumentation based on what they felt would best fit the lyrics. With the bass and drums recorded last, essentially, the record was recorded backwards and the result is a collection of songs about love and loss that takes you on a lonley, broken hearted trip reminiscent of driving around listening to Patsy Cline fade in and out on the AM radio.
Haley’s vocals and songwriting have a raw, strong, beautiful and at times heartbreakingly honest quality and have allowed her to share the stage with such artists as Holly Golightly, Woody Pines, Jenny Owen Youngs, Ha Ha Tonka, Lucero and Jason Isbell. She is currently working on the follow up to her EP which should be released in early 2014.
