AJP are four cats- sometimes five- (two out of Berklee) who blend jazz, jam, and funk in ways that keep all three forms moving in new directions. All four can play straight-ahead jazz and kill it, and it is this foundation that gives cred to What Comes Next; a raging, genre-stomping jam collective damned near impossible to categorize. Yeah, we'll do "Well You Needn't"- we just do it as a funk chart! We might do "Afro Blue"- we just start it with the Allman's intro to "Whipping Post"! With us "Take Five" is a 15-minute bass-loop groove meditation; with us "Birdland" becomes Phish's "Chalk-dust Torture" in the middle. And when we are done with our read of the Police classic "Walkin' on the Moon" it feels like audience and band have taken a long journey together. We take our influences from cats like Miles (esp the stuff from "Bitches Brew" on up), Weather Report, and more modern folks like current favs "James Farm" and "String Cheese Incident." Want some straight-ahead played to the utmost level? That's AJP. Want some jazz-based stuff that covers much more ground? That's REALLY AJP!! Just give us a shot- we'll do the rest!
