Casey Derhak has christened his musical style "feel good barefoot bonfire on the beach" country music . Growing up in Dover, New Hampshire and Jupiter, Florida, the accessibility and intimacy of those small towns both influenced and shaped his musical heritage. Born into a musical family (Casey's dad plays guitar and his Uncle Rob is bassist/vocalist for noted alternative jam band moe.), there was always music being played at home in Casey's early years. After dabbling in piano and saxophone, he settled on guitar at the ripe old age of thirteen.
Around that same time Casey, an accomplished athlete, also developed a twin passion for baseball and songwriting. He pursued both talents equally over the next decade, playing college baseball while honing his talents as a songwriter and guitarist. A fascination with words and melody created diverse musical opportunities for Casey during this period: from singing in chorus to forming a five-piece rock n roll band on the bar circuit, an acoustic duo on the club scene, free-style rapping as a solo act, and eventually, a serious introduction to country music by his college roommate.
"I fell in love with country music," says Casey. "It gave me a true appreciation of the craft of songwriting. As a genre, its ability to connect with people on so many levels really appealed to me as a songwriter." Eventually a sports injury placed baseball on the sidelines, and Casey trained his traditionally intense focus entirely on a career in music. A precipitous meeting with Nashville-based Drew Thompson of the Woodland Group led the two to collaborate as co-writers, resulting in theme song credits for television programming (Ronnie Smith's Outdoor Adventures) and a restaurant marketing campaign (Santa Fe Cattle Company). The vibrant musical kinship of Nashville beckoned, and Casey relocated to follow his country music aspirations in earnest. Now settled in Music City, Casey can be found showcasing his prodigious musical talents at well-known local venues with many talented writers and musicians.
In 2012 Casey partnered with Tito's Handmade Vodka and Tropically Impaired to shoot and promote the music video for Casey's first single "Off the Back of the Boat”. It's going to be a special 2013 for renaissance man Casey Derhak, His brand new single “Worth The Wait” has a much anticipated release, as he plans on spreading the good vibes of his music to audiences through live performances at venues throughout the Southeast, as well as being featured on other Nashville artists albums. While Casey's quest as a recording artist and performer keeps his schedule busy, he still finds time to write with other songwriters and up-and-coming artists, generally writing over a hundred songs a year. Keeping his passion for both performing and songwriting fulfilled. Casey is a BMI writer. Check out caseyderhak.com
