Oponente is a Hardcore band set-up in 1994 by Danilo Carpigiani (guitar) in São Paulo, Brazil, driven by influences from that time such as Downset and Madball. Joined later on by Rodrigo Reis (vocals) in 95 (ex-Mayoneise 94-96), Felipe Corrêa (drumms) in 96 (ex-Strangers' Noise), and Rodrigo Buitoni (bass) in 97 (ex-Areyougod? 2005, Nitrogloom -94 and Hellknights). These are the current Oponente members.
Influences vary from different hc/punk/metal bands from the 80/90’s, including Madball, Agnostic Front, Sick of it all, Terror, Hatebreed, as well as Sepultura and Ratos de Porão. Lyrics encompass social subjects as well as human relations, and specially express the inconformity with different aspects of current social problems around the globe.
During its history, Oponente has played in many places in Brazil, overall underground bars along the country and together with different local bands.
Oponente’s albums include: "Reverse" (96), "Olho por Olho" (97), "Convicção" (99) & "Trauma sobre Trauma" (2001/02). Oponente's last album is called SUDAMERICANO.
The majority of Oponente's lyrics are in Brazilian Portuguese, while some others are in Spanish or English.
