I'm a singer/songwriter/lover based in NYC. I make chill-out rhythmic pop music.
When asked what she would like her audience to take away from her music, Yolisa Bam confidently states, “I hope through my writing or my voice, I can inspire someone to love life– even if it’s just one person. Music is the most effective way to connect with people. I sing about things women think and feel but don’t always say because it might push the envelope. I want be that voice for women by saying what I really feel and sharing my story.”
Raised in Cape Town South Africa, Yolisa grew up in a household where Motown, Jazz and Pop songs were always playing, sparking her love affair with music at a very early age. "When I was about 2-years-old, I would dance and sing to any Michael Jackson record. That was when I really discovered music. And on every family road trip I would sing every Sade and Isley Brothers lyric at the top of my lungs," she recalls. After moving from Cape Town to Oakland, CA, she was discovered by talent agent Jimmy Villareal and began performing with an acapella group and in the local open mic circuit.
By 2012, Yolisa was ready to take her dreams of being a singer to the next level. She self-produced a short EP on her MacBook and used it to connect with local producers and work the open mic circuit. She currently lives in New York City and is in the studio recording her debut mixtape which will be released in the summer of 2013.
