Cassandra "C.C." Taylor was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. She grew up listening to the sweet sounds of the great old Big Bands and Frank Sinatra her father would frequently play on the family stereo, which had a tremendous impact on her. With the foundation in place, it wasn't long before she discovered even more influential legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, Etta James, Ray Charles, Diane Schur, and as of late, Diana Krall, each serving as the most incredible teachers, influencing her apprecation of music, and leading her down the path towards the music that speaks to her most. Cassandra took her singing from her childhood room to the stage when she joined a wedding/party band in the 1980's, and has been expanding her repertoire and growing as an artist ever since. Now she enjoys paying tribute to those legends who left their footprints on her heart, performing everything from Ella and Frank and all the Great American Songbook composers such as Porter, Basie, and Rodgers & Hart, to Etta James and B.B. King, and much more.
Cassandra relocated to the Austin area in 2009 to marry a native Texan, and in doing so, was delighted to discover the prevalent live music scene. She began collaborating with local musicians, who nick-named her "Chicago Cassie" due to her origin, or "C.C." for short; and the name stuck. She enjoys sharing her passion music, be it jazz, pop, or even blues, with audiences equally enthusiastic about the great old classics. Cassandra regularly performs with the Cassandra Taylor Jazz Trio, or other musical configurations (duo, quartet, quintet, etc.) tailored to suit the occasion. Serving as lead vocalist, she works with a variety of musicians but typically plays with Bart Madeley on guitar, Tommy Clarkson on bass, and for percussion adds Kevin Hall or Chris Bennett on drums. Her husband can often be found adding the baritone sax, and soon his new tenor!
Cassandra has a genuine affection for the golden era of jazz, and long cherished popular standards, as well as the blues, which she is inspired to share with audiences equally enthusiastic about these great old classics. Her belief that "anything worth doing is worth doing with passionate intensity," is evident in her soulful song stylings. With a vocal range that varies from sultry to soulful, and a varied repertoire, you are sure to hear something you enjoy, and reminisce about simpler times. Cassandra's group is available to perform at venues, private parties, and corporate events throughout the greater Austin area. With a self-contained Bose PA system, her group can fit in any size room and entertain any size crowd for any occasion.
Cassandra has a new CD due out in October entitled "Life is a Cabernet."
