A Midwestern native with Southern parents, Kelly Jean grew up listening to country music legends like George Jones, Hank Williams, Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash to name a few. Though she was bred on country radio, she felt the pull towards pop music at an early age. “I’m so grateful that I was exposed to such great artists as a kid. To be a pop artist with that kind of influence in my subconscious is inspiring. “ This blending of musical cultures is apparent in her songs. Telling a story is just as important to her as keeping her sound new and fresh.
In her hometown of Chicago, Illinois, Kelly Jean has placed in almost every local singing competition, and opened up televised sporting events. She spent two years fronting Chicago’s #1 event band and became a regular singer at local music festivals. It’s no surprise that her sheer ambition has landed her in Nashville, Tennessee. Since her arrival in Music City, Kelly Jean has become a sought after demo singer and has written with Nashville’s top songwriters. The very first song she co-wrote became a semi-finalist in The International Songwriting Competition, the most acclaimed contest of its kind. Being submerged in likeminded creativity, Kelly Jean is in her element.
Kelly Jean is currently working with a Grammy nominated engineer/producer putting together a collection of songs that expose her vulnerability whether she’s breaking your heart, encouraging you to pick yourself up, or making you want to get up and dance. With her captivating original music, her clear-as-a-bell tone gets personal. “It has always been my vision to make music that people can relate to, that they can be inspired by. There wasn’t a hard time in my life when there wasn’t a song to get me through it. And when great things were happening, I had a song to help me celebrate. It is my dream to give back what has been so graciously given to me.”
