WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED?
Born – Houston, Texas. I lived there for one year and subsequently remember none of it.
Raised – Anchorage, Alaska and Denver, Colorado
WHEN DID YOU GO TO COLLEGE, FOR WHAT, AND WHY?
When – 2005-2009
What – CU Denver, B.S. in Music, emphasis in Piano Performance
Why – It was the only thing I could see myself going to college for. I “signed up” for college on a whim, driven there by the frustration of my 9-5 job.
WHAT & WHO ARE YOUR MAJOR INFLUENCES?
My influences are constantly evolving, and the timing of this question will always provide a different answer. In the last day, I’ve listened to TV on the Radio, Luis Enrique, Girl Talk, Cultura Profética, Louis Armstrong, and Marvin Gaye. Lately, I’ve revisited Simon & Garfunkel, the Doobie Brothers, and James Taylor. I’ve studied classical music my entire life, sang in musicals in high school, played in jazz bands, hip-hop bands, rock bands. I was a metal head for a while. All of that has seeped into what I do now, some way or another.
WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO MEET?
WHAT IS THE WIERDEST GIG YOUVE EVER DONE?
This is a classic for many musicians – The Gondola Gig, where you have to load your equipment onto a moving gondola. LOTS of fun with an upright bass, keyboard, amps, and drums.
WHAT IS THE FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO YOU ON A GIG?
In Holland at a jazz festival, 20-something girls were dancing on the table to Dixieland jazz. Our 10-piece band was utterly floored at the European youth’s appreciation and reception of jazz.
