Johnny’s Body is an American indie-rock band from Gatesville, Texas, formed in 2006. The band consists of Jordan Rhudy (lead vocals, guitar), Carrie Burt (keys, backing vocals), Taylor Branch (guitar, backing vocals), Jeremy Tillery (bass guitar), and Steven Calvillo (drums, percussion).
Johnny’s Body was born in the summer of 2006 as a two-piece guitar and drum duo consisting of brothers Jordan and Ben Rhudy. In the years following, additional members joined the ranks, filling out a cohesive sound without losing their dirty country essence and rock n’ roll grit.
Johnny’s Body released their debut EP, Always Moving Never Stopping, independently in 2008. The band released their first full-length album, Swing Low Rock & Roll, in October 2009. Following a brief hiatus, Johnny’s Body is again writing and performing in anticipation of its currently untitled sophomore release in the spring of 2013.
Untitled Album (2012-Present)
Writing for the upcoming album began as early as 2009. Circumstances surrounding the band; however, delayed the writing process and the new album was eventually postponed. In the years following, Johnny’s Body has begun performing a few songs from the upcoming album live, most notably “The Old Man and the Queen” and “Northern California.” The band is currently planning to return to studio in early 2013, with an expected album release later this spring.
Swing Low Rock & Roll (2009)
Johnny’s Body debut album “Swing Low Rock & Roll” received critical acclaim for it’s diverse and genuine sound. The album was produced by Stephen Collins and was recorded over a 5-day period at the Troubadour Studios in Lockhart, TX.
"Swing Low Rock & Roll" is the culmination of the life experiences of Jordan Rhudy, a Central-Texas singer/songwriter who has a penchant for Tom Waits and old horror movies. You might say the album is a brief introduction to a young man's view on life and death in the 21st century, expressed through folk-rock that spans many related genres. Mood-wise, "Swing Low Rock & Roll" moves from upbeat songs about puppy love and friendship, to tales of murder and remorse. In the end, however, it's all about honesty. Every lyric, beat and note drips with a sincerity that carries the album. "Swing Low Rock & Roll" is a folk-rock album that touches on the big themes of life in new ways.
Always Moving Never Stopping (2008)
The band’s debut EP “Always Moving Never Stopping” released in limited quantities. The band frequently performs several songs from this release live, particularly “Old Dead Tree”, despite the recording being largely unavailable. Re-release is tentatively scheduled for 2013.
