With 13+ years professional performing and playing experience, Johnny Kongo rolls thick when it comes to bass. Either up-right or electric, expect the fat tone and energy only achieved by those that truly love the instrument.
Recently gone solo, Kongo has started The Johnny Kongo All-Star Show (three piece featuring various guest artists) and The Kongo & Slim Cowboy Dope Show (string duo featuring upright bass and electric guitar). Both arrangements have been running the Colorado scene for the last year and have also logged a tour to the mid-west.
A Johnny Kongo Show is suitable for all ages and perfect for any kind of event from patio or porch gig on up to a large stage venue or a private party or wedding. Johnny Kongo and Colfax Slim (both singer/songwriters) have written a dynamic collection of original music containing songs in many roots country, honky-tonk, rockabilly, and cow punk styles. Other preformed music varies from vintage Honky-Tonk covers (from artists such as Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams I & III) to Rockabilly covers (artists such as Commander Cody, Eddie Cochran, Junior Brown, and Rev Horton Heat) and Classic Country covers (artists such as George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings).
Johnny has extensive tour experience; touring from 2008-2012 averaging 200 gigs a year from 2010-2012. Locations include mid west / western US and Northern Europe (Holland, Belgium, Germany, France).
JK also has produced/mixed and played on four albums and two various other productions.
