ALISON STEEL is an American rock band from Clinton, Tennessee. Formed in 1989 by, guitarist James Kesterson and his brother, drummer, Michael Kesterson. ALISON STEEL has a very unique sound which reflect their influences of blues, rock, pop, country, jazz, new-age, heavy-metal, and alternative. While some songs can leave no doubt about what genre they are, there are many songs which cannot be described or placed into a genre. Songs like "Can't" and "Still" were created using open chords out of their natural areas on the fretboard. This approached creates unusual chord structures and sounds which no other band or artist has done before nor since.
ALISON STEEL was discovered by Electra Records in May 1990 by president of A&R, Carol Childs. After an unsuccessful attempt of securing a record deal with Electra, ALISON STEEL stopped shopping for a recording contract and focused on writing and recording over the next 3 years. After the Grunge scene exploded in 1993, ALISON STEEL went on hiatus when James enrolled into college and Michael went to work. Over the next 20 years, James kept writing while starting a family of his own. Michael worked serveral different jobs and left drumming and the music scene entirely. In 2010, James built a recording studio in his garage and began recording both new music along with re-recording the older ALISON STEEL songs. In 2011, Michael discovered he had stage-4 colon cancer and immediately had surgery and started treatments.
In 2011, the idea of reforming ALSION STEEL first was discussed between James and Michael. In 2012, James' first son, 16-year old Anthony,,joined ALSION STEEL as lead guitarist. Anthony has his own unique style and sound which is a cross between Ace Frehley of KISS and Randy Rhoads. He brings a new exciting element to the band which gives it new life and blood.
The future plans of ALISON STEEL are to release an album sometime in 2014 and perform, at least, one show. ALISON STEEL has over 10 albums worth of material and are currently in pre-production of selecting which songs to record for their new CD.
