The Chris Cummings Standards Trio is a jazz trio led by drummer, Chris Cummings, that performs modern interpretations of jazz standards from every era. Very much a modern band, the trio is dedicated to honoring the jazz canon without living in the past. Each performance of each piece is an exploration of the moment with stylings that could be compared to Jarrett, Evans, Corea, or Bley.
About The Band:
Chris Cummings - Drums - began his professional playing career at the age of 14. He was enrolled in the music department at East Stroudsburg University from 1987-1989. He has performed or recorded with many notable players including Jim Weider(The Band), Shane Nicholas(Fender Amp Guru), Jesse Green, Dave Lantz(Keith Jarrett) etc. As both a sideman and leader, he has played at some of the biggest music festivals in the world including the Berks Jazz Festival, the Rehoboth Jazz Festival, and Musikfest where he led his fusion trio, Displaced Peoples.
Dan DeChellis - Piano - has become a nationally recognized talent as both a solo improviser and as a band leader/composer with his own trio, the Dan DeChellis Trio. Although deeply steeped in both classical and jazz training, he embraces a wide vista of influences which is what makes him so unique when contained in the jazz genre. When sitting at the piano, Dan DeChellis doesn't play music .... he creates it.
Mitch Shelly - Bass - is an demand musical chameleon with decades of experience in a variety of genres. During any given week, you could find Mitch playing at a resort area club, Smalls in NY, an upscale brunch on the Delaware, or opening for the likes of Ray Charles, Chick Corea, or Spyro Gyra. Chris says this of Mitch, "There's a quiet intensity that only comes with years of dedication. I can rely on Mitch to allow Dan and me to push and pull the music without needing to worry about a train wreck which is what happens with less experienced players."
