Joe Michael Shaw
I spent nearly all my life wrapped in the dirty water bayous of the Mississippi Coast. When I was 14 years old , I found a small guitar in the old shed behind my family's house. I didn't know anything about playing or tuning a guitar so, I just made it sound right to my ears and started playing. Once it sounded like a song I just started writing and never stopped. As I grew older I fell in love with the water and found my home in the Mississippi seafood industry. I finally knew what I was going to do with my life. Catch fish and write songs. Then there was a hurricane named Katrina that stole my life. Then just when things were becoming normal, an oil spill stole my livelihood. Fifteen years later, I am a full time singer songwriter. After spending some time in Nashville, writing , recording and performing, I was given an ultimatum by the powers that be, that had me choose to return home and start forming "my" band, "The Saltwater Cowboys." This is the start of our journey.
I hope you enjoy what you hear. All my songs are about life experiences, good and bad. Someone once asked me what kind of music I write and I said, " I sing songs you can feel."
