Born and raised in Tbilisi-Georgia, Nino Arobelidze moved to the US as a teenager where she fell in love with jazz music. Moving to Chicago to collaborate with other artists and musicians, Nino graduated from the DePaul University Music School and is currently working with as well as producing various projects. Her latest full-length solo effort NOMAD, co-produced with Pablo Gordy, is due for release on March 17th, 2014 on Ni Fu Ni Fa Records.
When deciding to record NOMAD, Nino found that the songs she was wanting to put together on this album lyrically all shared an uplifting message with an undercurrent of urban romanticism. While her World music and Jazz influences are apparent in the arrangements, NOMAD is flavored with a healthy helping of old school Funk, Soul and R&B thanks to Arobelidze’s long-time collaborator, Pablo Gordy who happened to co-produce the album.
Nino’s voice is often described as pure and effortless with a timeless vintage twist. While her imaginative phrasing and swagger are reminiscent of a skilled instrumentalist, her treatment of language is driven by the power of words and the magic of subtlety.
Ms. Arobelidze recently directed and produced the music video for “Coltrane Skies” one of the featured tracks on NOMAD. This, as well as other pieces of her videography can be viewed on her youtube channel, www.youtube.com/ninoaorbleidze
