Mike McCarthy is an American roots musician. Combining early blues, old country and traditional folk influences, he delivers high-energy live performances of original material, traditional songs and carefully-selected covers drawing from acoustic Delta blues, 70s roots rock, and melancholy traditional folk and country ballads.
Born in South America and raised in rural New Hampshire, McCarthy grew up learning bluegrass and religious music, played metal in his late teens and early 20s, delved deep into the Georgia/Florida/Allmans blues sound in his mid-20s, and now a breath shy of 30 years old he has boiled his sound down "the roots" - his roots, our roots, your roots, American roots. His influences include Delta blues, Mississippi Hills blues, Appalachian folk, country flat-picking and even Bolivian folk music.
McCarthy has lived and performed throughout cities in the northeastern US, Guatemala, Ireland, Florida and Texas and has spent years wandering the American south, absorbing musical influences from Macon to New Orleans. McCarthy plays professionally as a solo artist and has released two albums. In January he competed in the 2014 International Blues Challenge, representing the Blues Society of Northwest Florida.
He performs regularly in his home base of Central Texas or on his upcoming Swamp Music Tour, which will hit Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and numerous cities in Florida this August). For more info go to facebook.com/mikemccarthysongs.
