Chasing Venus had its beginnings at the end of 2011 when lead singer Angela Alvarez was asked to open for a group of bands at Pranksters Too/The Jester Room in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tyler Durkee was playing bass for The Good Bipolars at the time, and approached Angela with the idea of starting a cover band. The timing was perfect since Angela had been encouraged by several local booking agents to put a band together for corporate and lounge-style gigs.
With the addition of Chadwick Kenyon on lead guitar and Jeff Vaughn on drums in early 2012, the group quickly learned a variety of popular yet less common covers, typically not played by other cover bands. In the process, they discovered their unique sound blending pop/rock, punk and soul, and began writing original material.
Chasing Venus has quickly gained momentum in the Phoenix area and has developed a diverse local following. 2013 will include frequent travel to San Diego and Las Vegas to begin expanding their fan base beyond Arizona.
The name Chasing Venus comes from a wine Angela was offered while hosting open mic night at Terroir Wine Pub, the first place she ever played guitar and sang in a public setting.
