Take a group of accomplished and creative musicians from various suburban Philadelphia towns, put them in a bunch of jam sessions now and again, give them some time together to work out parts and a song list, and you have one of Philadelphia's most interesting bands, known as Valley Creek.
Drawn together initially by a common interest in playing fiddle tunes, Valley Creek has branched out to specialize in performing standards from bands such as The Beatles, Dire Straits, Men At Work and The Police, using bluegrass instrumentation. Their repertoire also includes traditional songs from bluegrass, old time country, folk, American and Celtic roots music, and more.
Band members include Gus Compson on guitar, Jeff "Six" Sugzdinis on mandolin, guitar and Irish tenor banjo, Ed Kramer on 5-string banjo, Joanne Hill on upright bass and Carol Sandler on fiddle. Often joining Valley Creek are Jay Popky on guitar, Chris Gately on drums, and others.
