My initial influences come from my older brother and sister, who were listening to Buddy Holly, The Beatles, and other pop/rock around the house. My brother picks guitar, and because he had one I insisted on having one, so my dad took me to the pawn shop when I was six or seven and bought me an old acoustic guitar, which I still have a picture of, but jeez how I wish I still had it. I used to keep my church offering money given to me by my parents, and my sister would sometimes take me to the local record store in Gadsden - The Music Box I think it was called - so I could spend that money on Beatles albums. She also took me to see A Hard Days Night at the Pitman Theatre - which was full of teenage girls that day of course - and she made sure I got to go to the drive in to see HELP!
My other influences are Ravi Shankar, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Yes, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Jethro Tull, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Josh White, Bonnie Raitt, . . . you know the routine.
I've had many detours. Finally, at fifty-five, I'm SICK of learning others peoples' songs.
Thanks to friends and family and their support. Seriously! Especially my wife and kids!
