False Flag has been together since 2010. All the members have been in bands around town since the late 1980s/early 1990s, finding themselves in and out of the same circles of friends and local Wichita musicians.
The members of False Flag enjoy writing and performing original boisterous rock music and we like to have fun whether we are on a stage, in the jam room or working in the studio.
The band writes all our own songs and each member takes a turn at writing and singing the lyrics. We usually work as a team on vocals. The themes of some of the songs and lyrics range from Wichita’s “big ditch”, conspiracy theories, angst-accompanied love, wars with demons, and hanging out with Friends… When people ask us what we sound like, often we say “what if the Pixies and Motorhead had a baby and that baby grew up in Wichita?” This gives a potential fan a point of reference, and it is fun to say. False Flag has a vast number of musical influences, and our sound fits into a range of punk, pop-tinged alternative, with healthy-heavy-handed exposure to heavy metal.
False Flag has a decided, undeniably mutual love for local legends Manilla Road. Their hit song Lost In Necropolis is one of our only cover tunes.
This is the 3rd consistent band Jeret and Rhea have worked together in since 2001. They were in 7/8 Quick and J.A.N.E.T., respectively.. We joined up with Tracy and began working together not too long after the breakup of J.A.N.E.T.—having a blast writing songs. Rhea had jammed with Tracy in a couple of previous settings, and our bands joined forces for local shows on a near weekly basis for many years. Our 1st bass player, Darren Holland, had to quit not long after the formation of False Flag. [Rhea had been consistently in bands with Darren too since 1999, and Jeret since 2001]. Local rocker and soundman, Scott Mackey, joined the band on bass for about a year, and helped us record a handful of songs [to be released as a CD soon] before he had to depart due to other musical obligations. Randy Moore joined the band on bass in at the end of 2013 and quit the band at the end of 2014, and in that brief time, he contributed greatly.
