John Lawton started playing guitar at age 12 after hearing the searing guitar playing of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Classically trained in both Piano and Alto Saxophone, John latched onto Stevie's story of being a self taught guitarist and spent countless nights listening to not only Stevie Ray Vaughan but The Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin developing a sound all his own to express his emotions. After High School he played lead guitar in a couple of bands before starting out on his own as a singer/songwriter. John set out to find his own voice by playing local coffee house open mic nights and showcases. He has played at the infamous "9" Showcase put on up and down the east coast by Justin Trawick, as well as the singer/songwriter showcase at Brewer's Alley in his hometown of Frederick, MD that gets not only local and regional acts but also national and international acts as well. He has also been one of the featured artists at the S.N.A.F.U. (Sunday Nights All Folked Up) event at Pure Wine Cafe in Ellicott City, MD hosted by David Morreale. Attending one of John Lawton's performances as a solo acoustic act is a show filled with passion and honesty that sounds fresh every time he steps on stage.
