Tayla Alexander recently sang solo for New Zealand Prime Minister John Key at the request of Sir Peter Leitch. She immigrated to New Zealand from South Africa with her family when she was about six months old. From the age of about 4 she has been singing in front of audiences. She particularly enjoys doing charity work and has sung at the Coca Cola Christmas in The Park and the Auckland City Mission Christmas lunch event, for government ministers and many other charitable events
Tayla (13 years) has achieved record success in the many classical singing competitions.
The young soprano won all four categories and was the overall winner for her age group in the North Shore competition. Competition judge Janice Webb noted her maturity, level of difficulty of the songs, her technique and of course her voice. Janice Webb noted that it is “very rare for one singer to win all of the categories – and I have only ever awarded one other competitor first place in all categories.”
Tayla has also placed in her age category in the New Zealand Opera Idol (2011) hosted by the Opera Factory, and sung on 6PM TVONE news after receiving a Best Buskers award
Tayla enjoys all music but particularly Classical Crossover Music. Her other interests include going to the movies with her friends, playing with her two golden retrievers and her cat.
