Martini Five-0 are seasoned, full-time jazz professionals equipped to handle everything from black tie to casual - available both as an instrumental trio (guitar, upright bass, drums) or as a quartet with vocals.
With its repertoire dedicated to the hits of greats like Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Wes Montgomery, you might say that Pasadena, California jazz group Martini Five-0 is stuck in the past. "That's alright with us," says band leader and drummer David Walker, "we consider it an honor to perform a body of music that has stood the test of time, and we have a great time doing it."
Martini Five-0 grew out of jam sessions between Walker and English upright bassist Sam Norman. “Sam had just arrived from England a couple weeks before we first met. I had been working as a professional drummer in Los Angeles for a couple decades, mostly in rock and pop. I was looking for opportunities to play more jazz and knew that Sam had a lot of experience playing bebop overseas. I invited him to jam, and we hit it off really well.”
Shortly after, the drum 'n bass duo enlisted the services of highly regarded jazz guitarist Brad Rabuchin, who played with Ray Charles for 5 years and has also performed with Louie Bellson, Diane Schuur, Bonnie Rait, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson and Tom Jones, among others. To round out the group, they recruited up-and-coming Los Angeles vocalist Jessica Bryd. "Jessica is young, but don't let that fool you," says Walker. "She has a natural talent for capturing the spirit of the classic jazz standards. Audiences love her."
