Jay Renea, born October 1988, is a Rochester, NY native whose style and lyrical capacity draw upon NYC greats like KRS-ONE, Nasty Nas, Rakim, Boogie Down Productions, and more. Jay Renea began writing at the age of 10 and has always been gifted when it comes to expressing herself in written form. Jay Rena works hard to perfect her craft, and prides herself on delivering hip hop music which aims to uplift and educate, versus rap music which talks about material items. Jay Renea is new to the scene, and realizes she has a ton of competition, but her focus is not beating out other women emcees, but broadening her listeners mental and psychological horizons.
Jay Renea has always been into the arts and hip hop. Since a young girl her mind has been heavily inundated with lyrics and bars from great emcees who vowed to teach and educate their people. She credits her love for the art to her older brother, who always had a tupac or mos def track bumping through his speakers.
Currently, Jay Renea is working on a Mixtape she plans to drop by the end of 2012, and is also working on becoming a part of the We All We Got artist showcase. Though she has been writing for years, her passion for the art of hip hop finally gave her the courage to spit. Not only can she rap from written lyrics, but she has the ability to freestyle and battle rap. An all around emcee, Jay Renea is not looking for fame, but rather a large platform to spread messages of peace, love, and self respect.
