Clio / Bio

Clio take their name from the Muse of History, the source of their livelihoods; but in their spare moments they pay homage to Euterpe, “Giver of Delight,” goddess of music. Clio have whipped up a unique masala of folk-funk, drawing on their diverse musical backgrounds and interests. For them, music-making is an uplifting, collaborative, and joyous process, generating world-renewing vibes.

Eric “E-Bone” Jones is a Wyoming cowboy with a soft spot for Johnny Cash. His spectacular upper-body apparel (obtained in the Malay world) is surpassed only by his electrifying stage presence and his rocking rhythm guitar. Inspired by his numerous treks through Southeast Asia, he’s written such classic party rave-ups as “Ping-Pong Show,” “Sexy White Skin (Things Overheard in Thailand),” and the anthemic “Fancy Shoes.”

Raised in the heart of John Hughes country, Beatrix “B-Bone” Hoffman began her musical career with classical piano lessons, but counts Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, and the Sex Pistols among her heroes. Later in life she discovered her gift for bluesy swing and country-fried warbling. Drawing on the travails of being a department chair, she can sho’ nuff sing the blues. Her harmonic sense and tastefully melismatic singing make her band mates swoon.

Bassist Taylor “E.T.-Bone” Atkins listened to a lot of country AND western in his childhood, but it didn’t hurt him none. Digging on the entire spectrum of African diasporic music – heavy jazz, gutbucket blues, roots reggae, greasy funk, Afro-beat, música Afro-Cubana, and sanctified soul – he would rather groove than eat.
