Crooked Mountain Porch Dawgs are a folk outfit hailing from the Appalachian foothills of Southwest Virginia. Primary members include Danny Ray McCarty and John Peery, an uncle/nephew duo. Revolving members include Jordan and Lucy Rivers, with occasional appearances by Travisty. Danny and John find inspiration in natural beauty—ancient trees, hidden streams, fast mountain creeks and waterfalls—in addition to the beauty inherent in an old farmhouse, or a trusty pick-up. Their influences include folk musicians/songwriters such as Neil Young, John Prine, Bob Dylan, Doc Watson, Darrell Scott, Tony Rice, Guy Clark, Stephen Stills, Tom Waits, David Crosby and Ani DiFranco. You can also catch them listening to the occasional Yes, Joe Walsh, Pink Floyd, BB King, Otis Rush, or Jeff Buckley record. Their music is a communication across a generation, and their love for each other is apparent in the music they make together.
