In 2008 Yellar Dog was born. We set out on a journey to be the greatest band anyone had ever heard and to light a flame in the hearts of our fans that could never be extinguished. Yellar Dog is a family we work together, we perform together and we party together, thus the Yellar Dog you see on stage is real and not patchwork. We have played stages large and small and we always bring our “A” game no matter what the venue, if there are 10 people or 5,000. We are and always have been an original band. Our strongest belief is in originality, writing and playing from the heart. We also perform cover songs that compliment our songs (if that is required of us). There is interpretation and there is creation. Music shouldn’t be about what we see it should be about what we hear, we should approach it as if we were blind and our ears were the only way we could in-vision beauty.
((((Brett "Moon Dog" Parker- Lead and Back up vocals, Rhythm and Lead Guitar))))
Brett has been around music all of his life. As a boy he carried his father’s mandolin into Bill Stanley’s bar-b-que, and had dreams of one day doing his own show. His father Sam Parker is currently in several groups including Bo's bluegrass band and his acoustic blues group Blue wing. Sam once toured Poland with Mark Pruitt and the New Day Country band. Like Donovan, Brett started out as a drummer and expanded his talents to include guitar, some banjo and fiddle.
((((Donovan "The Deacon" Norton- Lead and Back up vocals, Rhythm and Lead Guitar))))
Donovan comes from a rich musical background. Both of his grandfathers were mountain musicians. His Grandfather Byard Ray was a famous fiddler who made many records, movies and played for royalty. His Grandfather Morris Norton was a banjo and mouth bow player (who was a early influence on David Holt). His mouth bow now resides in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington. His mother Lena Jean Ray has retired from singing traditional ballads at festivals. Both Lena and Byard have received the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Award. His sister Donna Ray Norton still sings the traditional ballads at festivals all over the country and has toured with the NC Symphony. His hero is his Uncle John D. Ray.
((((Charlie McClellan- Drums and Percussion))))
Charlie is very respected by his peers for his musical talents. His abilities on drums are something to behold.
Charlies official bio is in the works and has been for some time…lol.
(((("BIG" John Hollifield- Bass Guitar))))
John started out playing drums. Drums are still one of John’s main passions. John started learning to play guitar in 7th and 8th grade. He learned to play from watching his dad’s buddies sitting around drinkin and pickin. He knew then, it was something he wanted to be a part of. John took classes from Bob Nolan, one of the greatest learning experiences of his life. In no time John was sitting in and playing anything he wanted. A few years later his friends, the band Southern Forever, asked John if he would be interested in playing bass. John thought, Bass???? I have never even tried. Southern Forever already had a bass and some really good persuasion skills, so he said what the hell. So, now here is Big John the bass thumpin machine. John loves to thump that bass. Along the way John has played with bands that have opened for bands like, Molly Hatchet, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Night Ranger, The Outlaws and The Marshall Tucker Band. John has also jammed with Leon Wilkerson (R.I.P.) and Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd. John was part of bands such as Southern Forever, Blackout and Milk Sick, just to name a few. John has played many venues at many levels. He will play anywhere, anytime and for anyone, playing anything. John carries the soul of a true musician.
Yellar Dog is a smash up blend of Rock, Blues, Alternative and Funk. We have a very loyal following and we are looking to expand our horizons and play some new venues, as well as continue to play the places and in front of the faces we've all come to adore.
