"Remarkable Voice with an Amazing Look"
"A True Talent"
These are some of the things that others in the industry are saying about Zambian born, London raised singer / songwriter Katongo. With musical influences such as Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie, Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, it's no wonder this very talented young lady, effortlessly blends Afropop and R&B in her own musical compositions.
Katongo first expressed a deep love of music at the tender age of 11 when she started writing songs. Since that time Katongo has persistently honed her skills in songwriting, recording, singing and performing. As a singer/songwriter she combines her Afro/European upbringing with her talent, to bring forth an engaging musical edge. This comes through in her self released debut EP entitled "My Way" which is packed with dance influenced tracks laced with African drums and Caribbean rhythms that instantly grab your attention and showcase her ability to deliver meaningful lyrics with strong, yet soothing vocals.
With fan favourites such as "Tonight", “So Good” and "Something Bout the Way" it's understandable why this up and coming artist has been nominated for the UK Zambians Singer/Songwriter of the year award and why she continues to garner online media attention and African radio airplay. With her recent invitation to be a guest performer on Sky TV 182’s ‘Sporah Show’, we see no evidence of Katongo’s popularity slowing down.
Alongside her music, Katongo enjoys doing charity work. Since 2010, Katongo has been aligned with the charity ‘Africans United Against Child Abuse’ (AFRUCA). Recognised as a supporter of the charity, Katongo, alongside other speakers, was invited to the House of Commons to give a speech. Since then she has been eager to do more charitable works beside her musical career.
It is a very exciting time in music right now as Katongo has just released her first single and music video ‘Tonight’ which has peaked at no 17 on Oljo, the popular online German Music Video Chart, ahead of famous artists like Calvin Harris, Ne-yo and David Guetta. With such popularity of her first single the songstress is preparing to release her second single and get back into the studio with some very talented producers to work on more material.
Katongo is quickly becoming one of the artists to watch in 2012 and beyond. Not only does she have an ever growing worldwide audience, she is also already recognised as one of the 20 most successful Zambian women in the UK. There is no doubt that this young lady is already exceptional but she is without doubt destined to become an Award winning artist with multiplatinum success.
