MzGimini was born as Teresea James on June 3rd in the beautiful city of Quincy, Florida. Her adoring parents; Harriette Marie Patterson and Jessie James, always knew that she was destined for greatness. By the tender age of three, MzGimini was already singing for her parents and her father continued to influence her love of self-expression. By age eight MzGimini blossomed as she continued to outwardly show her love for entertaining by singing and dancing with her very own creative style. She imitated popular celebrities and pretended to be a famous super star. Little did she know that her fantasy was well on its way to becoming a reality.
MzGimini was influenced not only by her father who also had a great love for music but great singers like Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Kahn, Shirley Caesar, Yolanda Adams, Stephanie Mills, Shirley Murdock, Whitney Houston, Donna Summer and Melba Moore. While in high school she performed and was well received admirably in numerous talent shows not to mention receiving the congeniality award. After high school she joined the United States Army and in basic training she was already making strides – being awarded for having the best motto containing the strongest, loudest, motivational and lyrical content. MzGimini was stationed in Korea and was a part of the Air Evacuation Medical Unit where she assisted with administrative support for her fellow soldiers during the time of “Operation Desert Storm.” She was also an expert shooter in every unit she was assigned to – ranking her amongst the units’ top marksman as both a soldier and a female – a very prestigious achievement. To show her continuous appreciation for her country’s military, MzGimini also stunned her fellow comrades with stupendous performances for retirement ceremonies, change of commands, and Christmas functions. She is truly an outstanding woman as she served 11 years in the United States Army. After her discharge and upon her return from overseas, MzGimini, now a single parent, took a few years and much needed time to raise and care for her children. Ultimately, now settling in Lawrenceville, Georgia and still sharing her gift as only she knows how, MzGimini maintained her unrelenting love of music and continued to thrill her audiences with the “Wow Factor” as she performed at open mic in local venues in Tallahassee Florida.
Though MzGimini has been singing since she was three years old, she started seriously pursuing her music career in 2008. She came to be known as the 1st Lady of the group ‘Tally Playas’. MzGimini’s savvy style and creative genius stirred the curiosity of her listeners and she was asked, “What makes you different?” She was quoted as saying, “My singing style is unique and no one comes close to my sound. My image is also unique because I don’t pattern myself after the industry look. My music has substance and personality. I also have to say my determination and life experiences, because I serve up whatever life throws at me.”
MzGimini’s voracious ambition for success propels her further up the ladder – offering new ventures and avenues. She continues to expand herself by exploring voice-overs, acting and modeling. She is open for collaborations and writing songs to shop to major celebrities. When asked, “Who would you like to work with?” She expressed, “I would like to work with various artists in the music industry.”
