When the judges at Stage 305 crowned Magazine Society the Ultimate Miami Band and grand prize recipient of $5,000 they never anticipated the enthusiasm, which critics and fans alike found in their music. Influenced by bands such as Coldplay, The Killers and Kings of Leon, this group of dynamic individuals with an alternative rock sound, has been building a buzz in the South Florida music scene since 2009. Over the past three years they have played at Van Dykes, Church Hill’s Pub, Tobacco Road, Eve, The Stage and most recently at Will Call Miami.
The mindset that led them to win the Ultimate Miami Band title in 2012 was followed by the band’s first self-titled record in the Summer of 2013. The album, not yet released, is comprised of six songs produced by Jose A. Rivera Jr. Rivera is known for working with some of biggest names in Latin pop. He has previously worked along side, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez as well as Premios Los Nuestros and American Idol.
Lead Vocalist, Julio Berrones expressed his thoughts on the group’s first record, “it’s definitely been a labor of love for three years and we are hoping that all our patience and hard work pays off.”
What began in the drummer’s garage on a Fall day in 2009 has developed into a a strong and united group who is determined to be more than your local rock band. Magazine Society will showcase material from their self-titled record in early September. Plans for a release party will be announced shortly.
