Joe Scutella / Bio

Singer songwriter Joe Scutella found his way to music and songwriting while living in the college town of Bellingham Washington in the early 1970's. After putting down a baseball following a shoulder injury, Joe picked up the guitar and began writing songs almost instantly, playing and performing them. A few years later, as a student and collector of myriad percussion instruments and found objects, Joe joined the seminal world music-Jazz band Chuck Ventrello and Concourse as a percussionist.
Still, the guitar and songwriting remained his first loves. By the late seventies Joe was a member of the Boston based Fredrick Martin Band. From there his crafty, catchy tunes became well known in clubs, concert halls and colleges throughout the north east and mid Atlantic. Working with guitarist Marty O'Connor and fellow songwriter Robert Ortiz, as well as with his own bands and as a soloist throughout the 80's, Joe continued to travel, write and perform, building an impressive catalog of songs which lead him to his first publishing deal in Nashville in 1994 with Sentor music. More deals followed, with NotStock Music, EMI Blackwood Music and the Talbott Music group. Now, some 20 years later, Joe's songs have been heard and recorded around the world by the likes of Canada's Billie Joyce, Steve Fox, Patricia Conroy and Carolyn Friesen, as well as Alt-country-Americana artists like George Ducas, Rhet Akins and Melodie Crittendon. The Long Island NY pop band, Nine Days, who scored a #1 hit in 2001 with "Absolute story of a girl (This is the story of a girl) recruited Joe to co-write several songs and "Wine Women and Song", a Scutella co-write, was included on their most recent record, Alchemy in 2014. Folk-Americana artists such as Donal Hinely, Ross Falzone and The Butler Brothers have recorded numerous Joe Scutella songs upon successive records.
Joe has released 2 records to date, 1998's "Love is a train" and 2010's "Hang in there." Several single releases available via download only have included the hit Christmas song, "Like kids on Christmas morn" and the protest song "I'll stand with the working man". With a catalog of nearly 1000 songs, more will surely be on the way. Joe has twice been a finalist at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival new folk series, in 1998 and 2010, as well as a new folk finalist in the Napa Valley Wine and Music festival in 1999. Joe lives in Nashville still, where he continues to write while heading his own publishing company, Jupiter Inlet Music.
