John McConnell is an Oswego, NY based singer/songwriter, who's soulful voice and rhythmic guitar style combine to create a unique solo acoustic show that all demographics can enjoy.
John has shared the stage as an opener for national acts such as: "Toots & The Maytals", "The Wood Brothers", "The Spin Doctors", "Rusted Root", "Ozomatli", "Ryan Montbleau" and many others.
John's jazzy-bluesy-folky-funky style is both organic and homegrown. His original music is heartfelt and memorable and at times, demands the attention of its listeners. His renditions of cover songs are fun and unique.
John can adapt and relate to any type of venue and audience he finds himself surrounded by, whether it be: a bar, a world class eatery, an adult care home, a wedding ceremony, a coffee shop, a music festival or a high profile stage in front of the masses. John has played hundreds of professional gigs and logged thousands of performance hours. While most of his musical career thus far has been spent in upstate and Central NY, he has also performed in other locations including New York City, Los Angeles, North Carolina, and Florida to name a few.
John began playing guitar and writing music at age 15, in Ontario, NY. By age 16, he co-founded the band "Flux Capacitor" and became a self proclaimed "suburbanite-geek rock-rapper aka'd 'lumpy dogg.'" The band was no stranger to garages, basements, talent shows and the occasional club gig. Flux became unified in the common belief that music, swearing and smoking cigarettes were "cool."
(*disclaimer* John McConnell no longer views swearing or cigarettes as cool).
High School ended successfully in 1999, as did the band. John attended college at SUNY Oswego, stopped playing and writing, and did some other things for a while.
Inspired by contemporary singer-songwriters of the early 2000's, John picked up his guitar again and began to write and sing. By 2003 he started performing in pubs and clubs as a solo acoustic act. The rest is history in the making.
To help John break free from the bar-room tyranny, he asks that we spread the word about John McConnell Music.
In 2006 John co-founded the groove rock band "Turnip Stampede."
