In late December 2011 Christoffer decided to buy a banjo, and in early January 2012 Christoffer and Mikael got the idea of starting a bluegrass band with Alexander and Johan. Johan, who had never played the mandolin before, borrowed an old mandolin from Christoffer who had found it, fully functional, in a trash room during a vacation to Örebro in southern Sweden the past summer. All four members started rehearsing in Christoffer's apartment a couple of times throughout February, and in March they started rehearsing in an old brick house next to the local railway station called "Perrongen" or in english "The Station Platform". By early May they had already booked their first gigs and built a fanbase, using the underestimated power of making a Facebook-page.
During the summer of 2012 they had a few successful gigs and in mid August they recorded their first EP ("Let me rest") at BIBA Records in Frösön, Jämtland.
After the summer the band came to a sudden halt, though, still slowly growing its fanbase all through the fall, when they in early November suddenly hit the #1 spot on the local radio charts with the song 'The tree and the wind'.
Fun fact: The name Samjack Boys was given by the band's mandolin player Johan. But it is actually not the name he really had come up with. The name he had really come up with was Sackjam Boys, but when he shared his idea with the rest of the band he accidentally said Samjack Boys. All members agreed to the name and it wasn't til' after a day or two he realized his mistake. Though everybody agreed that Samjack Boys was better and that has been the band's name ever since.
