If you wish you could hear more old-school rock sounds from a new band, look no further than Eleven 11, a cross genre band that captures the spirit of the 70′s and the progressive aggression of the 90′s. We don’t get much of such old-soul original materials these days so its always a pleasant experience to come across a band like Eleven 11 once in a blue moon.
What’s surprising to know is the fact that their first EP was engineered in The Music Lab Orlando Florida and mastered by Dave Donnelly who was also the eyes and ears for bands like Kiss, Journey and Aero Smith.
Shyam Raj is the man behind this music project, a concept inspired rock band whose music combines influences from the 90s with odd time riffs and dynamic transitions.
Looking like a music old-timer with the all-too familiar t-shirt & denim jeans combo and casual look, his appearance and demeanour may fool you into thinking that it adds up to the regular musician everyone knows about. But it was never a smooth ride from the start and the burning passion to share his music prevailed over obstacles that stood before him.
Based in Rosendale, New York and Orlando Florida previously, this Singapore-bred musician has come a long way from his past heydays as a street performer to being a familiar name in the Orlando music circuit in the United States.
Eleven 11 is an alternative rock band founded by Shyam Raj who upon seeing the number 11:11 frequently, took this as a sign to start a new musical project and later produced a 4 song concept EP . The debut Ep was recorded and engineered in The Music Lab Orlando Florida and mastered by Dave Donnelly who was also the ears behind bands like Kiss, Toto, Journey, Aero Smith and more. melodies that resonate as a distinct delivery of passion and music combined. Lyrically, the songs are written with a mission to inspire a thought wave of positive change and a message of peace. With self sampled interludes and a variety of natural instrumentation on the EP, the journey began from giving out flyers on the streets of Orlando, to word of mouth and endless searching in order to assemble an array of quality live session musicians which included a violinist, cellist, oboist and even a choir for the self funded studio recording of the debut EP "Resurrect". To top it all, Shyam who wanted to test himself vocally as a musician, enforced a rule during the production where no auto tunes, electronic triggers, and creative editing were to be used despite the tight budget for the Eleven 11 “Resurrect” EP to produce a honest, natural sounding, musical experience for the listener.
In April 2012, Shyam relocated himself to find his dream with the name Eleven 11 in New York and has since been playing shows in Kingston, Woodstock, New Paltz, Rosendale, Saugetries and even The Bitter End and 116 MacDougal St in New York City where legendary artist such as Bob Dylan and many others once performed. The highlights of Eleven 11’s performances to date, were in the Florida Indie Music Festival in 2010, Florida Deland Music Festival 2011, Frozendale Daze Festival 2012 in New York and a student television guest appearance on the “Groovy Night Show” hosted by Full Sail University in 2011 among many other smaller venues in New York and Orlando.
Shyam Raj is also proudly supported by Gibson Guitars as a musician and was credited on CNNgo Singapore as “25 people in Singapore that mattered in 2009” with Singaporean parody rock band, Thambi K Seaow.
