Joel plays acoustic guitar because he has to--the music demons won't leave him alone if he doesn't. He measures out his soul with the harmonica, sometimes in neat portions, other times in a woeful torrent. Marching to the beat of his cajon drum, he pedals out a jangling rhythm that ebbs to a tide of emotion in a powerful lyrical performance that brings folk home--to the heart. There are things about his world, his country, his religion, that he believes 'simply need to be said,' and whether it is the bottle-cap beat, the poetry of lyrics, the soulful hum of strings, or the wail of the harmonica, he determinedly gets it out.
