Scotch Mist was a project that began in 2010 when singer and guitarist, Jonathan Vazquez, through a friend in common, was introduced to bassist and pianist, Jorge Luis Gamboa, and guitarist, Rafael Alvarado. Rafael and Jorge, who were high school friends, would regularly get together to play and record on their laptop for fun. It was through a cover of Radiohead’s Videotape song that the duo was first seen by Jonathan. When introduced to him, he immediately told them about his interest in starting a band and asked if they would like to work with him. Jonathan had already been member of a band previously and thus had many undeveloped ideas ready to be worked on. For the following months the three began to play and write together and eventually decided to look for a drummer to complete the line-up begin playing publicly. The search was long and no one seemed to fit with the trio’s ideological and musical style. Jonathan Vazquez then decided to recruit the help of a friend who was already part of another band but was willing to help the band get a start on the local circuit while they found the ideal drummer. In the summer the band started to play small venues and immediately caught the attention of a small but captive audience with their different and unique sound. In August the band played at the University of Texas at El Paso to inaugurate the season of Wednesday Music Café. In October the band met Christian Yanez and the members immediately clicked and began playing with him. With a full time drummer of their own, a set of incredible songs, and a year of shows on their back, the band decided to go into the studio and record a four-track EP for promotion of the band outside of El Paso and to try to garner more attention. The band is currently in the studio and the EP titled “Tragedy of the Commons” is scheduled to be released in the summer. They believe that their music is unlike any other and that it can truly leave an impression. All four members of the band: Jon, Jorge, Chris, and Rafa, are college students and are age 20-22.
