Ray Galindo began playing the guitar at age 10 after hearing The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the first time; it was a life-altering experience. "The Beatles were just breaking up. I got everything up to 1970 in one weekend. That was when I knew what I wanted to do with my life. It was all downhill from then on!"
The following year, played "Little Black Egg" at a talent show at Bloom Carroll Jr. High School in Columbus, Ohio. "That was the first time I had ever experienced microphone feedback. It sounded like an air-raid! I finished the song, but I was shaken. What a debut!"
Moved to Tampa, Fl in 1974. Was not interested in school much. "I used to get on the bus with my guitar, and when I arrived at the school, I would leave and go to Matt's (Cerrato). He had a drum set and interesting records.I got most of my early musical education at his house."
In 1976, joined teenage band, Pegasus as lead singer for one show, a prom at Christ The King Jr. High School playing covers and Top 40. Later that year, joined Broadway Star as lead singer for one show, a Battle of the Bands at Papa's Dream in St. Petersburg, Fl. Wolfman Jack was one of the judges. "We were Glam/Punk before there was really such a thing. We lost to a jug band!"
Had the opportunity to learn harder rock and southern rock as lead singer with the WT (West Tampa) Band in 1977 singing material by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Spooky Tooth and other bands that were popular at the time.
In 1978, Ray met and joined forces with local piano player and entertainer, Ralph Ferrera. They made four recordings that never surfaced and played a couple of shows in Ybor City - most notably, The Ybor City News Experimental Music Ensemble in the Cuban Club Theater in 1981 and a memorable appearance with Ronny and The Rayguns at Skipper's Smokehouse.
From 1984-1986 worked with Richard Sharkey, the technical director for The Playmakers, a regional theater company where he learned some stagecraft and developed an interest in musical theater and production.
In 1985, hosted the Open Mic Night at Rough Riders. It began as a solo gig, but unable to carry the entire evening, invited some musical friends to play and thus was born the open mic in Ybor City...one of the first in the area.
