Stuck On Blue - Because rock needs a bit of blue
Formed in January 2012 as a garage rock duo by John DeFoe (vocals/guitar) and former drummer Mark Athey. Things were raw, but promising, moody and dark. Soon Timothy Stapleton (bass) joined the group to provide a low end the shrill sound needed. Late summer 2012 Charlie Gilmer (formerly keyboards) joined the group and added a touch of sophistication to the dirty sound. The four amateur dreamers continued writing songs and gaining valuable experience playing the best dives in town.
The spring of 2013 brought the addition of songwriter Zack Long (lead guitar) as the groups sound evolved into a full 5 piece band by layering classic lead guitar work over organ. Fall 2013 was the departure of co-founding member and drummer Mark Athey after family and work commitments took priority over this money pit, no reward hobby. Former manager and band's best critic Jim Foster kept the band alive by filling in on drums during the interim. Then Spring 2014 brought Terry Linster II (drums and close friend of Stapleton). The band's sound immediately turned more bar friendly and straight forward as DeFoe's songwriting naturally flowed into Linster II's faster, up-tempo style beats.
Summer of 2014 DeFoe, Stapleton, Gilmer, Long, and Linster II went to Shenandoah University to record 10 songs in 16 hours on a tight budget. The results posted here; while satisfying, and a great stepping stone, were rushed, and too ambitious for the little time the 5 members had spent together. Fall of 2014 saw the departure of Gilmer who was extremely talented and classic trained, but a bit eccentric for the band's new focus that was brewing.
Today DeFoe, Stapleton, Long, and Linster II have come full circle and are writing some gut punching, honest, dark, moody, but rhythmic rock music. They stay true to their roots while putting a fresh spin on a seemingly forgotten sound.
Stuck On Blue is now writing music that we love, appreciate, and can honestly be proud of because the attitude, emotion, and mood is real. It is all about the music and nothing more. We have comfortably settled into making music that fulfills us by being true to who we are. We hope you come along with us on our journey. We are Stuck On Blue.
