When you grow up listening to and watching your uncles playing the blues, and you see how wonderfully it impacts people, it leaves an impression! As a result of these experiences, Robert T. White, more commonly known as Rob, started playing lead guitar at the age of 12. Fortified with instruction at institutions such as The Cleveland Institute of Music, he quickly formed his first successful band, The Black Magic Band in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Due to the caring as well as seriously social nature of his personality, and as is the case with many successful artists, he initially took his craft to music ministry in his and other churches. His credits in the field of gospel music include working alongside of artists such as BeBe and CeCe Winans, John P Kee, Yolanda Adams, Donald Lawrence, and Jonathan Dubose, in concert or in the studio; performing on BET’s The Bobby Jones Gospel Show; and touring with the Ohio Mass Choir.
Following on the heels of the Ohio Mass Choir tour, Rob was selected to be bassist for R&B singer Gerald Levert, also performing with Eddie Levert and the O’Jays. As word of his hard work and dedication spread, he was then selected to be music director of Men at Large, and later for saxophonist Pamela Williams. In the secular field of music, he has performed with or opened for Earth Wind and Fire, Marion Meadows, Doc Powell, Pieces of a Dream, Pamela Williams, and most recently for Nigerian-born neo-soul vocalist Asa, in Lagos, Nigeria, West Africa. Jazz Festival credits include Pennsylvania’s Berks Jazz Fest; BET Jazz Central in Washington, DC; and Capital Jazz Fest in Baltimore, Maryland.
Rob has composed several songs in preparation for his first solo project, including solo piece “Run, Don’t Walk to Victorville”, a song dedicated to his friend and fellow bassist, Victor Wooten. He chooses as his primary instruments, either his 7 or 8 string extended-range basses. The 8 string is a personally designed, custom bass endorsed by GCB Basses, in collaboration with owner Duane Greene.
As President of The White House Band, Rob leads a versatile and energetic team of talented artists, who perform R&B, contemporary jazz, soul, and blues, at venues across northeast Ohio and surrounding states. As a world-class solo artist, “President Rob White” clearly has the experience, dedication, talent, and know how to also take his band, The White House Band, anywhere from smaller, more intimate settings, to the various stages of the world’s larger venues.
AS OF MAY 21, 2012, ROB WHITE IS OFFICIALLY THE NEW BASSIST FOR THE OHIO PLAYERS! CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER AS THIS OPPORTUNITY TAKES HIM IN AN EXCITING NEW DIRECTION!
