"We seek to be, in a word, intense."
- Sam Walters, Vocals
Driven Mad—the new project by ex-members of popular New York City metal act King Hell—has been generating loud buzz throughout New York's heavy music scene for expanding the metal genre and delivering high-test live shows. Debuting in late 2012, the band has released two EPs—2012's 'Disorder' and the new 'Committed'— headlined across the city, and were recently the focus of two episodes of the documentary series NYC Rocks TV, by award-winning filmmaker Damian Kolodiy.
Driven Mad's sound ranges from unconventional thrash to '70s groove, drawing on melodeath, classic metal, and even hardcore punk. The music is heavy on aggressive but melodic riffs, prominent rhythms, and strong vocals across a range of styles. Of their live show, singer Sam Walters says, "As a frontman, my ethic comes from guys like Bruce Dickinson, who were engaging and put out tremendous energy. If a pit doesn't erupt, I failed. That’s how I see it I motivate myself."
Driven Mad's new EP 'Committed' was recorded at Four Legs Records and produced by Steven Goldman, whose work has been featured in Metal Edge magazine. In support of the release, the band is playing a series of headlining shows in New York City, and opening for national acts including Downset, Shai Hulud, Exmortus, and Lich King. 2014 will see the band continue branching out across the Tri-State area and the East Coast, with regional touring planned for late summer. A video for the first single from the EP, "Gripping The Third Rail", is also being filmed for a spring release.
