Richard Bates and Scott Reed met in the early 1800s while working as personal baristas for president Martin van Buren. Upon learning how to juggle, the duo headed west and opened a 24-hour primal scream house in Ogden, Utah. After several unsuccessful attempts at yak bowling, they went their sepearate ways. Richard ended up in Boise, Idaho, running an upscale nail clipper factory while Scott became the first person in history to inhale a horse. Disillusioned by disco, pet rocks and Bob Newhart's career, it became clear that Richard & Scott should turn their attentions to music but not before pogo-sticking across Zaire.
