Crystal Hill Billys came together by way of a super-hot guitar player, Andy Curry, who moved to Colorado Springs from Lamar, Colorado. He began showing up at the weekly jam in the Springs, and Joy, the bass player, was immediately suspicious. Joy is from Los Angeles, and couldn't figure out how this guy just showed up out of nowhere, so she logically surmised that he must have been in prison and had a lot of time to practice, and he was just getting out and trying to start a new life in a new community where no one knew him. Joy soon learned that Andy had moved to the Springs to be nearer to his parents and so she let her guard down. Mandolin extraordinaire Sherman Bush was called because he's the best mandolin player in town--that's what we think--and then Joe Scott, our resident physics teacher showed up one night, fiddle in hand ready to sing a song. Gary the dentist was a late comer to the group. It must be hard to be a banjo player, AND a dentist...but since we're a gracious group of folks, we won't talk about all the possible jokes that are in that combo. How Gary met up with Andy remains a mystery. But, let me tell you, the fun this group of diverse folks have had! Playing in the basement of one band member's house in Crystal Hills in Manitou really got something started. And it's good. Welcome to the Crystal Hill Billys. We're old and in the way...but that name is already taken. We love traditional music and enjoy the fast ones especially well. We come from all musical backgrounds and have kids that are into all manner of musical styles which has influenced all of us greatly. Shout out a request and we'll make it happen. See you soon.
