Raised on the waters of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Hotel San Sebastian has existed for five years and was started by high-school classmates Woodrow Stulberg, Alex Richter, and Foster Kardos. Named after a quaint hostel in Paris, France, the band has evolved to take on a similar persona.
After scribbling out a three song demo in 2008, guitarist Alex Kelly joined rank. Since then, Hotel San Sebastian's four, core members have remained the same, as well as being joined by over 12 prominent and talented musicians, at different times, to add texture and diversity to their music. Needless to say, the sound has taken many shapes in that time and landed on an eclectic mix of your parent's favorite hits of the 60's and 70's, and today's creative, classic-modern hits.
After guitarist Alex Kelly's relocation to the Hawaiian islands in 2010, the band landed in a short hiatus, exploring their own, individual musical paths, only to come back in 2012 with a newer and a more mature sound. With the remote help of A. Kelly on guitar, the band has just released a new, six-song EP at www.hotelsansebastian.bandcamp.com written by Alex Richter, Woodrow Stulberg, Alex Kelly, and Foster Kardos.
To add to the multiple DIY recordings that the band has produced, they are even more well-known for their intimate and sweeping live shows. Playing at numerous venues in Minneapolis with the likes of 4onthefloor, The Person and The People, The Hunting Club, The Fontanelles, Nicole and The Avalanche, Portage, Me As A Pilot, Fairfax, AK, The Eastern Sea, Sarah Winters, and more. Hotel San Sebastian has and always will follow the mantra, "To know it, is to love it".
