The Chanman Roots Band has been together since 2006 with a few changes, but the current line-up of musicians has remained constant since 2009. Completing the album project independently, the band recorded and released its first CD, "New Uprising", in June 2011. The nine members come from all over the country, including Maine, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Colorado, California and Wyoming. Although each of the musicians was initially attracted to the Jackson Hole area for its outdoor activities and scenic beauty, they all discovered a vibrant music scene in the region as well and eventually began playing music together. Currently living on both sides of the Teton Range in Idaho and Wyoming, and even further away on the east side of the Wind River Range in Wyoming, the musicians show extraordinary dedication to perform together by the distances they travel. Coming from different musical backgrounds and personal influences, each musician adds his or her "musical roots" to the mix with a range of Reggae, Rock, Jazz, Stage and more, often resulting in multi-instrumental jam sessions during live performances. Along with their original songs from "New Uprising", CRB plays a collection of classic Roots Reggae tunes from artists like Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytals, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, as well as songs from modern artists like Michael Franti, SOJA and Damian Marley.
