Justin King is an instrumentalist, songwriter, performer and producer. Raised in the hills of west Oregon he began his career as a solo instrumental guitarist helping pioneer new playing techniques that have now become ubiquitous in the fingerstyle acoustic guitar world. After touring extensively and opening for artists such as BB King, James Taylor, Al Green and others, he returned to Oregon and built Blackberry Hill Studio outside of Eugene, OR. In 2006 he started his first songwriting-based band which was signed to Epic Records within a year of it's inception. After Epic was downsized King lost many of the connections at the label and eventually requested to be let go from his contract. In the few years following his departure from Epic he began another career as a photojournalist traveling to places such as Iraq,Haiti, South Africa and elsewhere making independent photoessay reports for the BBC news. In 2010 King relocated to Brooklyn, New York and built his second recording studio in the historic Vinegar Hill neighborhood. King has produced and engineered several records for promising New York songwriters and bands since building his Brooklyn studio, Vinegar Hill Sound. In the summer of 2011 he began to tour again as a solo guitarist playing shows in Japan, China and Taiwan. A solo acoustic UK tour is slated for July 2012.
In early 2012 King began playing with a talented group of New York-based musicians. With several shows booked in NY and PA the group is just beginning to explore their potential. The group is comprised of songwriter (and ex-member of The Films) Kenneth Harris on guitar, vocals and piano, multi-instrumentalist Joe Brent on mandolin and fiddle, session ace AJ Jump on drums, mercenary bassist Mark Kiesinger, the incomparable Tommy Lee Bohlen on the pedal steel and King.
