Originally founded in 2000, Sound of the City Music Group, Inc. houses multi-talented producers, musicians, songwriters, and artists. Sound of the City has provided instrumental backing for many local, nation, and international artists. S.O.T.C. has been called the primary sound behind DCs underground music scene, along with being the most requested band on the east coast. These musicians have performed on tour with Raheem Devaughn [The Jill Scott Real Thing Tour 2008], and have performed in almost every major venue in the DC area including Constitution Hall, The Lincoln Theatre, The 9:30 Club, The Black Cat, The Birchmere, and the Merriweather Post Pavillion. Sound of the City has played for and shared the stage with many major artists such as Jill Scott, Chrisette Michelle, Keyshia Cole, Algebra Blessett, Joe, Raheem Devaughn, Chuck Brown, Floetry, Biz Markie, Ledisi, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, Wu Tang, Marsha Ambrosious, Rahsaan Patterson, Jon B, Dwele, Leela James, Bilal, Glenn Lewis, Angie Stone and many more....
The founders of S.O.T.C. Music Group decided to create an all-star band, bringing together not only talented musicians, but equally talented vocalists. The Sound of the City Band has released 2 mix tapes, Appi-Teazer (2008), and Spring-Teazer (2009). The company’s production credit can be found on the 2010 Grammy nominated R&B album, “The Love & War MasterPeace” (Raheem DeVaugh), where Sound of the City produced cross-over hit, “Super Hero”. In 2010, the band released a live CD entitled, “Live @ The Boiler Room”, which has credited them with a 2011 “Wammie Award” nomination by the Washington Area Music Association for “Best Urban Contemporary Group”.
