Criminal Birds is ambient rock band from Denton, Texas formed in 2011 by Taylor Dondlinger, Grahm Robinson, Reggie Hastings, and Gunnar Ebeling. The band’s unique sound draws from an eclectic blend of lush guitar and piano textures, cutting melodies, and a groovin', in-your-face rhythm section.
Three of the Criminal Birds (Dondlinger, Robinson, and Hastings) began playing and writing music together with guitarist Vince Hardwick in 2009 under the moniker, Copasetic, when they were in high school. After a year of playing shows and struggling to find a permanent bass player (going through a total of three) the band split in March of 2010. The band reformed in the summer of 2010 with the addition of bassist Gunnar Ebeling and without Taylor Dondlinger. The group then called themselves Melodium. After a year of gigging with Dallas band, North of Autumn, Taylor Dondlinger rejoined the band in September of 2011 replacing guitar player Vince Hardwick.
The group is now known as Criminal Birds. The band members feel that they "...all sort of gravitated towards each other. When we originally formed in high school, it was clear to us that we had a unique creative chemistry. Music was going to be our profession. However, it took exploring our individual musical paths (school or other projects) before we could really appreciate the ‘spark’ that this group has together.”
