Jason Shepherd sits down with his guitar in Kentucky and records a melody. Out here in California, I download it, add more music, lyrics and my voice.
We send the song back and forth to each other for ideas and inspiration until finally, the song tells us it’s done traveling.
We also have solo pages here. Come hear us! Jason http://reverbnation.com/vmishep and Shannon at http://reverbnation.com/ShannonGrissom
His melodies speak to me. They really do. As soon as I hear them, I know the story behind the music and I do my best to tell it.
(I’m laughing as I type this, I have no idea if it’s his story, but it’s a good story. And he doesn’t seem to mind me taking artistic license.)
I’m having so much fun with this music that I’m getting to the studio early each day so I can put in a few hours before the start of my work day.
I’ve never met Jason. I only know him virtually through the music he played on Blip.fm, and later via other social networks.
Jason was kind enough to give me an attaboy for some of my clarinet compositions. I later discovered that he composed as well, and I found that his music resonated with me.
We've been collaborating since the Fall of 2011, and in such a short time have created a beautiful collection of Americana.
We are finding that our music is resonating with others as well. In January of 2012, we received the First Fest People's Choice Award for our collaboration.
Jason Shepherd is a former active duty Marine, former public school teacher, and currently a national guardsman and federal employee, who loves to play and write music.
I'm an artist, television producer/host, songwriter, author and goofball, who carries my camera everywhere I go.
