'BlueTattoo' Blues Band / Bio

1. Mac 'Lonesome' Galloway, has been around the block....Late 90's Mac drummed in two Red Deer Alberta blues bands 'Brick-House' and 'Little Voodoo Blues Band'...1998 'The Crossing' recording sessions at Milestone Studios with Laura Clark & Wayne Holt, Mac on backup vocals, drums and bass. Music Fest a Vancouver Island Folk Festival in '08 saw an ad-hoc performance of Mac's originals songs with Sheri Ulrich backing on fiddle...Mac played in ‘Felony’ blues band and the ‘Blues Hunters’ mid-Island blues bands…Mac kick started the group in the summer of 2011...Mac writes many of 'Blue Tattoo's' offerings...from hard-edged to slow heart-felt blues songs plays guitar and takes the lead vocals on many songs with his soulful style...

2. 'Klamp "Tex" Pontoon' was part of the Calgary blues scene...until re-locating to Nanoose Bay on the West Coast...Kevin adds the blues with his raspy vocals…songwriting…and fine "harp' playin'...Klamp played with Mac in ‘Felony’ blues band a mid-Island blues band… Klamp, Mac and Gerry Bird all former blues band members kick started the ‘Blue Tattoo’ blues band in the summer of 2011…and played their first show one week later at the Mudge Island Music Fest…Their performance garnered rave reviews…Klamp tells his 'blues' story of adventure and soul searching... Originally from Rocky Mountain House Alberta...

3. James 'Wicked' Cecil rocks the Hammond 'B3' organ...layin' down the groove...a world traveled singer and songwriter...'Wicked' brings his powerful style to 'Blue tattoo' Blues Band...keyboards, harmonica, vocals
James has played in every conceivable setting in the last 30 years – from touring rock bands in the U.S. Midwest (Billy Shears), to reggae and soul bands in Hawaii and the Caribbean. He’s opened for many national acts including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Poco, and Kansas. This is one talented and versatile musician who brings a real joie de vivre to the stage every night.

4. Phil 'Safe-Cracker' Nowe...Is a staple fill-in player and commands great respect on VI...Phil can sit-in at a moments notice and add the dimension of a session players style to the live performance of the core group

5. Jim Powell started drumming just out of the crib and played in a couple of bands, Smear and Black Jack…Then Jim got a day gig...'Jazzie' played drums in a highly successful band in nanaimo in 2005 the band released an indie album of all original music entitled 'Bad and Blue'…Jim loves the blues and was looking for a blues band...having moved to Vancouver Island...he hooked up with Mac...they had played together in another band when they were younger..Jim joined ‘Blue Tattoo’ Blues Band...Jim says...'these blues men play great blues'.

6. *former member* Steve 'shuffle king' Young hails from Nova Scotia...he has toured in every province in Canada…and 2 territories…SK has held down the beat in many different bands…and after two decades of touring with ‘A’ circuit groups...playing the blues, rock, and country music…Steve and his family settled in north Qualicum beach...SK uses 'Zen' drumming to enter a near dream-like state as he gets in touch with the higher power of shuffle-oneness...Having studied in the ‘Jazz Program’ at Capillano College for two years...where he received his ‘shuffle king’ designation and hasn’t looked back since…While back east his touring rock band played live on ‘Much Music’ and the ‘Breakfast Club'...

7. *former member* James 'Stretch' Ireland, hales from Regina...‘Stretch’ started music with the tuba...
studied for many years and has stayed with the low frequencies ever since. ..
'Stretch' discovered the electric 4 string bass when he started playing rock and roll…His early musical influences were wide, from country to blues…even playing classical music in a full orchestra…
James held down the bass for many rock and blues bands and spent his early years touring the Alberta circuit before getting a “day” job…
'Stretch' moved to Nanaimo in 2010…James met ‘Blue Tattoo’ and joined the band...James brings his 5 string bass and versatile voice to the group and is ever present’ holding down the bottom end’ with 'Blue Tattoo' Blues Band...

8. *former member* Tim 'Blind Boy' Hanika...originally from Seattle Washington, Blind Boy was steeped in country/folk blues from his teenage years. Influences include Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, Taj Mahal, Charlie McCoy and Shaky Jake...'Blind Boy' writes many of 'Blue Tattoo's' soul searching songs...'Blind Boy' spent his early years in abject poverty...developing a severe speech impediment related to his failed eye-sight...his parents would suffer him to play his harmonica on the street...while he danced and played for the tossed coins of the passer-byes...at the age of 11 years Tim fell hitting his head on the curb...which miraculously restored 80% of his eye-sight...this miracle motivated him to become a successful speech therapist...and he eventually overcame the serious paralyzing stutter of his youth...

9.*former member* Roger Bouchard, started drumming young and played in a couple of bands, Kohutek and Black Lord…Then Roger got a day gig...'Dawg' played drums in a highly successful band in Red Deer Alberta, "In Transit" in 2005 the band released an indie album of all original music entitled "Unsafe At Any S
